DIGITAL FILM SCHOOL AFRICA An online learning platform for filmmaking
- alone or in a group, for guided or independent study
- Mahzouba Maya Faal, The Gambia “In Africa, there are a lot of stories that don’t get told. And many voices that don’t get heard.”
- Fatou Ndure, The Gambia “The first days of the workshop were such an amazing experience. There was so much to take in, so many things to learn.” - Matilda Dogbatsey, Ghana “My training with WELTFILME helped me, as a woman, to assert myself in a male-dominated profession.” - Luther N. Mafalleh, Liberia “WELTFILME has opened doors
for me that I didn’t even know existed.”
- Matilda Dogbatsey, Ghana “I don’t have a university degree. My WELTFILME certificate is my professional qualification.” - G-Othello Zordyu, Liberia “In Liberia, there’s no major TV station, no local film industry and, above all, no educational opportunities for young people to learn film. I want to inform and train the next generation.” - Luther N. Mafalleh, Liberia “WELTFILME gave me the confidence to do things
in my own way.”
- Luther N. Mafalleh, Liberia “Film and television are such powerful tools for drawing
the public’s attention to
important social issues.”
- Alex Asare, Ghana “WELTFILME — they’re just really good. They’re wonderful people. And they’ve got to keep doing this.” - Alex Asare, Ghana “Most of the media focuses only on the ugly parts of Africa — on war and disasters. I want people to see the real Africa.”

COME, I’LL SHOW YOU

A FILM SCHOOL FOR ANYONE, ANYWHERE

The few film schools located on the African continent are usually found in big cities, and their programmes are often prohibitively expensive. But digital learning is on the rise, and Africa is on the forefront of the trend. With almost half the population under the age of 18, young people in countries across the continent are more digitally connected than ever, and they are ushering in new possibilities for an increasingly online world.
&nsbp;
Together with YMCA Ghana and the African University College of Communications (AUCC), WELTFILME is developing a comprehensive course programme on the online learning platform www.atingi.org . Young filmmakers in countries across Africa can use the platform to gain vocational training and accreditation from wherever they are. DIGITAL FILM SCHOOL AFRICA is supported by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.

DIGITAL FILM SCHOOL AFRICA not only centres on the African perspectives on film and filmmaking, but also takes an innovative, practical approach to learning that connects instructors and students beyond national borders.
&nsbp;
We are currently creating basic courses in screenwriting, documentary film and creative producing to be taught online at AUCC and YMCA Ghana. Our goal is to expand DIGITAL FILM SCHOOL AFRICA with courses that offer professional accreditation in all areas of filmmaking, including directing, cinematography, sound, editing, and more.
