3 Years of South Sudan – the Showing of JUBA YOUTH at the Open-air Theater »Pompeji«

More than 100 guests joined »3 Years of  South Sudan«, the showing of the films of JUBA YOUTH at the open air cinema »Pompeji« in Berlin on July 11, 2014.

Before the screening WELTFILME.org had a talk with Achwil Biong Arop Kuol, First Secretary of the Embassy of the Republic of South Sudan, to let the audience find out all about the film project and the current situation in the world’s youngest country. After the screening there was more first-hand information about South Sudan. During a live Skype interview with film-maker Ochan Hannington, it became clear that the protagonist of his short documentary »Wani and his Vision« has managed to finance and pass his driving test by now and that he is currently in search for a job opening as a professional driver.

1,000 Euro for a Good Cause

The event was not just a movie night, it was a charity performance at the same time. Its total proceeds are to go to Juba’s Green Hope Association founded recently by Angelo Wieu Mou. This non-profit initiative takes care of street children in the capital of South Sudan.

Ticket sales, returns from finger food and hibiscus tea plus generous donations generated the tidy sum of 921.90 Euro. WELTFILME.org will bear all expenses of the event. In addition, the association will bring up the number by chipping in some 80 Euro from its own funds.

Thus it is the impressive sum of 1,000 Euro which will go entirely and directly to the Green Hope Association.

We, the members of WELTFILME.org would like to thank all volunteers, supporters and generous donors from the bottom of our hearts!
